  DOCUMENTING THE LGBT MOVEMENT

The album More Equal Union was born out of my desire to make a statement about my belief of what it means to be gay and how I should be treated as a citizen of the US.  I had been living an unassuming existence until Prop 8 passed in California in November 2008, which has changed my life towards being vocal about advocating for my equal and inalienable rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

With two plus years of videography behind me (thanks to the San Francisco Fog Rugby Football Club), I parlayed my hobby towards documenting the beginning of our current LGBT civil rights movement as it has taken shape in my hometown of San Francisco, CA.

The following are a few of my more-recognized documentary videos covering our movement.

  • Candle Vigil Rally, San Francisco, 11/5/2008

A candle vigil and rally in support of marriage equality and voting No on Prop 8, held on the evening of Wednesday, November 5, 2008, in front of City Hall in San Francisco. Thousands of people attended the rally, holding lighted candles, to hear a number of speakers and sing a few songs.  The video was shown on CNN after I uploaded it onto their iReport website.

  • Protest March, San Francisco, 11/7/2008

Video recap of the "No on Prop 8" Protest March in San Francisco on the evening of Friday, November 7, 2008, from the United Nations Plaza down Market Street through the Castro Neighborhood.  The video was shown on CNN after I uploaded it onto their iReport website.

  • Rally, Sacramento, 11/15/2008

Video of the No on Prop 8 rally held in Sacramento, CA on Saturday, November 22, 2008. The rally consisted of a number of guest speakers and a march around the State Capital Building. About 5,000 were estimated in attendance by the California Highway Patrol.

  • Milk Moscone Memorial,             San Francisco, 11/27/2008

On November 28, 2008, the city of San Francisco remembered the lives of Mayor George Moscone and Supervisor Harvey Milk. It was the day after the 30th anniversary of the assassination of both Moscone and Milk by then former Supervisor Dan White, which occurred on November 27, 1978. George Moscone is remembered as a mayor who supported the disenfranchised people of San Francisco and left a legacy of future politicians that have shaped both the city and the state of California. Harvey Milk was the first ever openly-gay person to be elected to a government position and is greatly remembered as a pioneer of gay rights in the 1970's.

  • Eve of Justice Rally & March,   San Francisco, 3/4/2009

Video of the Eve of Justice candlelight rally and march in San Francisco on March 4, 2009, the evening before the CA Supreme Court heard the court case to invalidate Prop 8.  The rally started at Castro & Market, then we marched from there up Market St. towards City Hall where we held a second rally.

  • Meet In the Middle 4 Equality,   Fresno, 5/30/2009

Video of the Meet In The Middle for Equality march and rally in Fresno, CA on the Saturday following the CA Supreme Court's decision to uphold Prop 8.  Featuring numerous ordinary and famous speakers discussing various issues such as anti-gay bullying at our schools, involving straight people into the civil rights movement, putting marriage equality back on the ballot in California in 2010 and organizing a March on Washington for this October 10-11.

  • Great Nationwide Kiss-In,         San Francisco, 8/15/2009
Video montage of the Nationwide Kiss-In held in San Francisco on August 15, 2009. Many couples came to Union Square at 11am on Saturday morning and kissed each other in public to protest the arrests and prosecution of a gay couple that was being affectionate on a Mormon plaza in Salt Lake City, Utah.
  • National Equality March,         Washington DC, 10/11/2009
Video montage of the speeches given at the rally following the National Equality March in Washington D.C. on Sunday, October 11, 2009 (on National Coming Out Day). Over 200,000 LGBT and Straight Americans descended upon Washington D.C. to demand equal protection under the law in all matters governed by civil law in all 50 states, as entitled by the 14th Amendment to our United States Constitution.
  • Federal Prop 8 Trial Rally,         San Francisco, 1/11/2010
Video Montage of the early morning rally held outside the Federal court building in downtown San Francisco before the official start of the Federal trial to challenge the constitutionality of Proposition 8.  Over 100 people participated in the rally and vigil and heard speakers and musicians throughout the morning.

All proceeds will be donated to Lambda Legal to continue the fight for LGBT civil rights.
